At the age of 24, Emily won the women's grand championship of the International Whistling Competition for the first time. 

Emily won the 2000 International Whistling Competition

Since that time, Emily has been a sought-after whistler, performing across a range of musical genres including opera, jazz, and new music. She has also whistled for numerous recordings, as a part of several modern art installations, and in commercial advertisements. Most recently, Emily's whistling was featured in artist Ann Hamilton's installation when an object reaches for your hand.

Emily has also taught numerous whistling workshops and classes, and shares tips and fun facts about whistling with audiences. Recently, she was a guest on the VPR show But Why, talking about whistling:

On New Year's Eve of 2020, Emily performed as a solo whistler with the New York Philharmonic in a suite of music from Into the Woods by Steven Sondheim. See her performance here, beginning at the 7:10 mark:
